The Brief: First-floor dormer bungalow redesign.
Requirements: Create a functional and stylish first-floor layout for a family of six, including a master bedroom with integrated wardrobes, a dedicated dressing area, an en suite and a family bathroom.
Set within the eaves of a dormer bungalow, this project presented unique design challenges and opportunities. The aim was to reconfigure the first floor to better suit the rhythm of daily life, combining practicality with comfort and style.
Bespoke joinery played a key role throughout, particularly in designing solutions that maximised head height and made clever use of sloped ceilings.
In the children’s and family bathrooms, we created playful yet practical spaces with extended vanity units, bespoke wall panelling and striking geometric floor tiles framed by a decorative border — adding both function and character.
The master en suite took a more luxurious approach, with full-height Carrara porcelain tiles on three walls to create a seamless, elegant finish. A custom vanity nook features a double-height mirrored cabinet with sleek timber beading, while a fluted marble drawer unit and open shelf below provide considered storage for towels and toiletries.
The master bedroom serves as a peaceful sanctuary, with wardrobes finished in textured wallpaper and accented by marble and brass knobs. A built-in velvet headboard, recessed into the original bay window, adds depth and warmth. Porta Romana wall lights and recessed ceiling lighting enhance the mood, and a new window was installed to capture sweeping sea views.
This project shows how thoughtful spatial planning and layered detailing can transform a complex attic layout into a calm, functional retreat for the whole family.
